Makita 9227CX3 7-Inch Hook and Loop Electronic Polisher-Sander with Polishing Kit customer reviews: Makita 9227C Polisher I have been detailing cars,trucks, & boats for over 30 years. I purchased the Makita 9227C after borrowing the Makita to try from a friend of mine. Overall I think the technology has improved since I started buffing cars in 1975. I like the unit itself as it is comfortable to use with the bale handle & the variable speed is also a plus. However my power cord has already frayed without even getting caught wrapped around the buffer. The Makita is only 2 months old! I had to send it out for repair costing me $40.00 & was told the cord has NO WARRANTY forcing me to use my 23 year old Black & Decker which I have never had a problem with. Good initial impression I've got about three hours of use on this tool and it is everything I expected from Makita. It is more quiet than other tools, never lacking for power, has a wide range of speeds and a very gentle soft start. My only issues are with things other than the tool itself You have to go outside Makita for things other than polishing bonnets and I would have preferred a kit box to the bag. At the very least the bag should have some pockets on the inside (this one does not). I do a lot of bare metal polishing and the wool bonnets do not work well for that so I purchased some foam pads from other vendors. This polisher has no problem flat or on an angle. I have not tried it as a sander. Excellent polisher This tool rocks! Someone bought me it to take some scratches out of a car fender. The fender had some combination of deep and shallow scratches. I left the deep scratches and polished out the light ones, then waxed the whole thing. While not perfect, the repair was darn good considering no painting! This thing will be a great addition to your tool shed. Recommended Love it Great product. Nice dial for the speed, with clicks to minimize accidental rotation (although I have inadvertently moved it with a body part once or twice). Choice of two handle attachments, the loop seen in the image or a post with guard like many two-handed drills have. The carrying case is a nice bonus that makes it easier to keep everything together (a few buffing pads plus the polisher). Makita Polisher. Faster and better than my porter 7424! Hi everyone. Oh yes. You've got me! I'm a Porter-Cable 7424 6-Inch Variable Speed Random-Orbit Polisher user and this is my very first rotary (i was scared to death about trying this on my car) so my review is from an enthusiast point of view. I like car detailing very much but two years ago i knew nothing about it so i started looking at the internet for answers to questions i didn't have at that time about car care. You can find a lot of information about what polish to use (i prefer menzerna over everything else i now know by the way), what pad to use, what wax to use, how to wash your car, how to polish it and the list simply goes on and on but, when trying to decide about what polisher to use things starts to become fuzzy. Some people tells you the porter it's the best for the beginner. Some people tells you can't go without a FLEX XC3401 VRG Orbital Polisher Intro Kit And almost everybody tells you if you're a Pro, use a rotary!!! Now my findings: The hing is tough, the porter it's for almost perfect paint finish that you need to polish or you have too much time to finish. It's just too slow to achieve what you need if your paint finish knows automatic car wash that gives you, a beautiful swirled surface you'll notice some day under the sun. The solution: Try a rotary, but there's a catch. Rotary are told to burn the paint if you don't use it carefully but if you use some very easy to understand techniques, you'll get a beautiful paint finish a LOT faster than the one using the porter. The makita is: - Faster - Quieter - Heavier - More practical - More comfortable Than the porter. The electronic speed sensor gives you constant speed and the dial let's you select the desired speed very easily. This thing while not the heaviest, it's HEAVY and controlling it requires a lot more muscle at the beginning than the porter but you need to use it for less time so it compensates the weight. If all you need it's to spread wax over your car, this thing may be overkill but if what you need is to polish faster and better with a dependable tool look no further. There is a DEWALT DW849 8 Amp 7-Inch/9-Inch Electronic Variable-Speed Right-Angle Polisher but it's heavier and believe me, you don't want more weight while polishing vertical surfaces like you car sides so my recommendation, buy this one! After polishing 4 cars ( I'm a hobbyist ) i love this one and i'll keep the porter for more delicate polishing. If you can have both... why not???. What i don't like about the Flex it's that it only works with one size of pads while the porter and the Makita can use many sizes means more flexibility. Hope this helps! JP
