It polishes and is actually reasonably quiet. Really eliminates swirls on aluminum and in paint. However, I was surprised by how heavy this guy was, and it was larger than I had imagined. But I'm a little girl so maybe this is just my personal problem. Overall, I'm happy I bought it, and would do so again if I had to.
