Great Saw. Great Price. No Regrets. Average rating of 5/5Average rating of 5/5Average rating of 5/5Average rating of 5/5Average rating of 5/5
I've had this saw for almost a year now and it has been so much fun to work with. I got mine for sale at Lowe's with the T2 fence system all for about $540. Assembly was quite "involved". I think it took about 3-4 total hours and on more than one occassion, 4 hands. Several times during assembly my engineer father-in-law and I noted some issues with design that made us scratch our heads (he got one too). One major issue (IMHO) we both had is that the 10" blade will not fully descend below the top surface of the saw. Good luck cutting tiny grooves or installing a zero clearance insert. It can be adjusted, but that's a pain too. You'll need to call technical support because such an adjustment is not listed in the instruction manual.

The blade guard is also somewhat sketchy. It will dutifly protect your hands, but it has the tendency to bind as you first push wood into it. This is very annoying, especially when it causes you to shift your material off of the fence making for less than perfect cuts. My advice, trash this thing as soon as you can get a better guard. You should have one, but not this one.

The blade that comes with the saw is acceptable I suppose. You'll want to upgrade it too probably. Overall, the saw's performance is spectacular. Good, clean, straight cuts and the top is good and flat. I never did the nickel test, but I never thought I needed to. Unless you're extraordinarily picky about blade guards, this saw won't leave you with any regrets.

What I discoverd Average rating of 4/5Average rating of 4/5Average rating of 4/5Average rating of 4/5Average rating of 4/5
I just received my new Delta 36-979 table saw and was extremely pleased with the entire product. The setup instructions estimated 4-6 hours to setup and it took just about 6 hours. The one suprise was that the 360° view of the saw did not show the motor installed which I found some what disconcerting since I had not planned my workshop for this additional foot of extension for storage. The finish was extremely well done. I have installed a Vega fence on it and it works wonderfully. I also have an Incra mitre fence which overcomes some of the shortcomings of the supplied fence.

How about a review of the product? Average rating of 5/5Average rating of 5/5Average rating of 5/5Average rating of 5/5Average rating of 5/5
It still amazes me that people review a product with one star because Amazon screws up the shipping or the price... So, ignore the majority of reviews on here that have nothing to do with this product. This is my second Delta contractor saw. The quality of this model is far superior to the predecessor. Assembly was somewhat easy, with the exception of a few frustrating head-scratchers. This is a sturdy saw and you can customize it until your heart is content.

One smooth saw Average rating of 5/5Average rating of 5/5Average rating of 5/5Average rating of 5/5Average rating of 5/5
This is a really well made and well thought out piece of equipment. The directions say it will take 4-6 hours to get it assembled and that definitely is true, but once you have it running (and add a better blade), this saw cuts like butter, runs smoothly and is surprisingly quiet (depending on the material being cut).

I did have to spend some time fussing with the split guard. It wasn't lined up with the blade initially (maybe that's because I changed blades too?).

And while I did manage to put this beast together by myself, I wouldn't recommend it. Get someone to help you. This is a HEAVY saw. Even the wings are too heavy for one person really. I have a sore back now :)

I added a cast iron router table extension which is really nice too and extends the width of the table. That went on without a hitch as well.

If you're doing small projects like jewelry boxes and doll houses, you can probably get away with something smaller.

If you're making cabinets and furniture full time, then you might need a cabinet saw.

If you're somewhere in between those, then this is the right saw for you.

Table insert sags Average rating of 5/5Average rating of 5/5Average rating of 5/5Average rating of 5/5Average rating of 5/5
My problem is the table insert. It is not flat. It sags in the middle. If all I did was rough framing it wouldn't matter but I do smaller precise work. I complained to Delta and shortly thereafter they shipped me a new insert. It was warped too, just like the original. I have an old Delta insert from another model Delta and it is heavier and flat. So, I know it is possible to produce a flat insert. What has happened to Delta quality control?

My homemade inserts from MDF work fine but the original should also be better quality. I gave this saw 5 stars because I love it for many reasons of which a couple are, it was easy to assemble and is very solid and vibration free. No one should complain about the alignment. They should expect to do a complete alignment before using any new saw.
